Overview & Origin

The Royal Palace of Phnom Penh has served as the official residence of Cambodia’s kings since 1866. Built during the reign of King Norodom, the palace showcases a remarkable blend of traditional Khmer architecture and elegant French influences.

Although parts of the palace remain the royal family’s private residence, several magnificent buildings are open to visitors. The complex features beautifully landscaped gardens, golden-roofed temples, and intricate decorative details that reflect Cambodia’s rich royal heritage and cultural traditions.
